Are The Mitas E 07 Dakar Too Hard To Install And Repair

Got these bad boys in the mail from MX1Canada…Cheeeep
great service from these guys, two days delivery from Vancouver to Calgary past brownish truck.
Thanks to Dave6 for the tip, he's running a gear up (I belive) on his wheel at the same fourth dimension.

Tire went on pretty easy (this is the dakar 4 ply) final fleck of tire going on the rim was easier than the k60.
Nice tread patter, much tighter than the K60, which is probably a plus on the route, and a minus off road.

I took it for a lx-80km drive yesterday, information technology wasn't warm (8 deg C).

Ok that sorted out, headed for the gravel. First fourth dimension this flavor in the gravel, the tire cleaned nicely over the melted/snow and mud in the shady $.25, and gripped well.

Information technology did more around a lot, due to the go switch still beingness on…
I'm not certain how it will compare to the K60, reports have it wearing improve than a k60
At that place is less of the vibration below 30 KM/h, but i'm not able to do a proper comparo as my front has the shinko on it. They tire grips well in corners, does not whorl on the outside knob.

Holy hell this thing moved effectually a lot under acelleration, I know it's cold, the roads are even so dirty from the ongoing winter, and new tire and all….wait a minute…the clutch switch was on, Doooh!

With the get switch on, 1st, 2nd, and tertiary gear saw a lot of the TC light on (TC1).  With the switch off, and riding similar a sane person, the tire grips well.  Dave did point out, that this is a true l/l tire, so riding difficult on the pavement will most probable kill the rear rapidly.  I'll have to poke effectually hard on my street bikes then.

Overall, happy with it, and the tires intended purpose.

Update: March 2nd.  Another lx km ride, plus 2 Deg C, with Cammy.  With TC1, and Touring mode, the tire hooks upward very nicely on gravel, skilful grip through a corner, and drive out.  I similar it.

Mitas Dakar rear tire: I'm impressed with this tire, very impressed.  I put it through 3000km of throttle hell.  I really should have gone with a route biased tire, a metzeler, battleaxe, or the new michelin's would have been better for the chore at hand.  We really did xxx odd KM off road, the rest of it was broken pavement, superslab, smooth as glas ashphalt, and loose surface odd's and ends.  The tire gripped very well, correct to the edge (pics to follow), good confidence in the pelting, and good wear.  I don't remember I volition see the 20xxxkm that some guys report for wear, since nosotros were pretty much in it all of the fourth dimension 🙂  It did step out on me twice, mid corner, cranked over, and on the gas (dainty little slides, that TC failed to even find, simply this is before I installed the new rear stupor)  Highly recommended.  At this point, i'g half way to through the offset part of the tire.

Update at err…roughly 4300km.  May 16th 2022

Ok, so i'm not certain who this guy is that got 20xxx km out of the rear mitas, but he must ride like a pansie!

at 4300km i'thousand near the heart wearable bar, unless the tire becomes rock hard, or past the use of PFM (pure fucking magic) it starts to non wear, I will be surprised if I come across eight thousand KM out of it.  That said, the front is going on this weekned, to replace my badly cupped, and quite frankly useless front end shinko 705.

spoke to some dude at mx1.  Hither'southward what he told me about the dissimilar tires.  The 50/50 3 ply http://www.mx1canada.com/mitas-e07-dual-sport-rear-tire.html is identical to the dakar 4 ply (xanthous stripe)http://www.mx1canada.com/mitas-e07-dakar-rear-motorcycle-tire.html.          He only recommends the iv ply if you ride heavy loaded, and you air down often off route.  This is where the stiffer sidewall comes in handy.  He also said to air the tire up to 36 psi for a guy that weights almost 200 lb with gear on.

A new 140/70-17 showed upwardly at my door.  overall widht is damn near identical to my four ply.  $150 delivered, sweeet!

It volition be going on as soon every bit the quondam ane gives upwardly the ghost.  I have decided to run the forepart shinko.  I'll peel it off when the rear mitas goes on.

As a side annotation, the mitas are only available through mx1 (costless shipping in Canada over $100).  Once you place the order, call them to double check that the tire is in stock.  The popular sizes (150/seventy-17) are back ordered for 8 weeks.  the smaller 140 is fine as well, and in stock.

UPDATE, JUNE 24TH 2022

And that's all she wrote for the rear tire.  As I suspected, viii thousand Km was going to be a big ask out of that rear tire.  Having said that, I'one thousand happy with it.  I pulled it off at 7700km.  I could have gotten more route just days out of information technology, but on gravel it was completely pointless.  As a side note, we came home from a 3000 km trip monday June 17th.  On the 15th, I was absolutely on it, trying to catch Captain rainbow on his tenere on stock boxing axes.  He set off nearly 5 min. earlier than me, and I simply could not make up the time.  The tire performed fabulously on the pavement with minimal tread left.  So thumbs up in that location.  Still very happy with wet grip, great off route.  A new 140/80-17 50/50 mitas is replacing this i.  Yes the mileage could accept been higher,  but 3000km in California, did not help, neither did 3000 km of some very very expert roads in BC (40% off road).

Side note:  I mount my ain tires, still working on my technique and set up, but getting better, scratch that, smarter by the day.  I take a tire stand on its style, a dewdrop buddy, and some decent motion pro bead breakers.  On that note, I mounted up the Dakar front end, went for a ride.  On my way back I decided to go off the beaten path.  Got into some mud and rock, then thick that I packed the forepart wheel to the point of not existence able to move it.  Finally got things going, just after most xxx km the front started feeling pretty sloppy.  Pulled over, turns out that I was loosing air on the front end, the bead was not seated properly.  It looked solid enough, and then I rode dwelling for about 45 km, with about 5 psi on the front, the turns were sketchy, but if y'all stood the wheel up, and minimized the lean, no problems.  Went home, took the tire off, popped the residuum of the bead off, and constitute that I had a bunch of dirt, and some of my balancing beads, between the tire and dewdrop.  Blasted the crud off with compressed air, and she'southward good to go.

UPDATE, February 2022

It'southward been ages since I updated this mail service. Oddly enough, I've gone through a lot of E07 tires. To date, it's been my go to all purpose tire.
I have gathered the following info on the Tenere:
-Five sets of E07s.  The rear tire wear ranging from a depression of 8k to a high of 11k. At present, the high wear rate was associated with grooving the tire with a tire tool. I ride off road a off-white scrap, and don't relish slicks. The grooving helps a lot, but with my riding style, and type of terrain, I doubt I would become more than 12k out of a rear.
I'1000 non mentioning the front tire, every bit I typically pull the front when I pull the rear. The story is the same, heavy feathering of the forepart tire, so it becomes noticeable when turning, and on road manners.

I only ran one full gear up of E-07 Dakars on my 2022 Chapeau.   Over again, different bore hoops (21/eighteen), but same rider, same conditions.

Both tires pulled at 9500km. Again, super happy with them.

For shits and giggles I installed Shinko 804/805s knobbies as I wanted a TL type tire to run without tubes. I doubt these volition clothing equally well equally the E07s. Seat of pants says max 5k out of the rear. They are stupid cheap ( a set costs the same as an E07 rear). Only if I only get half the life out of it, with little added benefit..it's not that practiced of a deal all of a sudden.

I accept a new E07+ rear fix to go along, and will pair it with an E08 on the front end.

Interestingly, there's a few more E07s to cull from.
Mainly the plus series for the rear. It's distinguished by a bigger lug, in comparing to the regular E07. Volition report dorsum once they are on the cycle.

Also, some of the designations are different. The E07 are all listed every bit TL tires. No more guess piece of work!
